A “jealous” father-of-five from High Wycombe, who attacked his ex-girlfriend and her friend as they “danced naked in her home”, deserves every day of his jail term, top judges have ruled.

UPDATE: Convict writes letter from prison admitting he deserves jail term.

Hanif Da Silva, 28, of Booker Place, was jailed for eight years in November last year after assaulting his former partner, Abigail Goddard, and her male friend in a shocking knife attack.

Da Silva was on bail with a condition not to contact his ex, but on July 8 last year the pair were together and had an argument.

Ms Goddard took refuge with a friend, Trevor Thomas, before they went to her home address the following day.

In the early hours of the next morning, they were “dancing naked in her living room” when there was loud bang on the front door, Judge David Aubrey QC told London's Appeal Court.

Maddened by jealousy, Da Silva got into the house and armed himself with a knife from the kitchen.

Ms Goddard ran upstairs for some clothes but, as she came back down, Da Silva slapped her across the face.

He then pushed Mr Thomas onto a sofa and got on top of him, “striking down on his head” with the knife.

The victim was left with wounds to his scalp, wrist and hand and lost over half a pint of blood, the court heard.

Da Silva was convicted of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and assault occasioning actual bodily harm and caged for eight years at Aylesbury Crown Court on November 19, 2015.

Da Silva this week argued his jail term was too tough and ought to be cut as it was an “isolated incident” and he had taken “positive steps” to improve his life while in prison.

But, the appeal was dismissed by Judge Aubrey after he had “carefully assessed” Da Silva's personal mitigation.

There were “no arguable grounds for submitting that a total sentence of eight years imprisonment was manifestly excessive”, he ruled.
