A High Wycombe GP surgery that was saved from closure has been given £20,000 towards refurbishment.

Lynton House surgery, at 43 London Road, was not deemed to be “fit for purpose” last year, with Cressex Health Centre applying to NHS England to close it down.

At the time, campaigners warned it could cause “serious problems” for patients who would have been forced to take two buses to Wycombe Hospital to attend appointments.

The plans were later shelved for a few years after the Chiltern Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) consulted with the landlord of the building who agreed to refurbish the surgery and reopen it with a reduced carbon footprint.

Now, after being allocated £20,000 of Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) funding, the refurbishment work on the part-time surgery is expected to start “soon”.

East Wycombe Independent councillor Julia Wassell, who campaigned against the centre’s closure alongside cllr Matt Knight, lobbying the CCG, and NHS England, said she was pleased that the surgery could “continue to CQC standards.”

She said: “'I was pleased to convene a meeting recently between the WDC Cabinet Member David Johncock and Representatives of the Clinical Commissioning Group.

“This was a very productive meeting and £20,000 CIL money was pledged towards upgrading Lynton House as a positive outcome to the meeting.

“Without this the refurbishment was short of money.”

The county councillor also revealed that more than 1,500 people have now signed a petition for a new Health Centre in East Wycombe, which will be presented to the CCG in April.
