Wycombe Wanderers manager Gareth Ainsworth has spoken on his side’s three stunning goals in the Chairboys’ 3-0 victory over Barnsley.

Anis Mehmeti’s tidy finish, Dom Gape’s 50-yard lob, and Nick Freeman’s rocket, gave his side their second win in the league this season and ended the Tykes’ 31-game unbeaten home record in League One.

The loss was their first at Oakwell in the third tier of English football since April 2016.

It was also the Chairboys’ first-ever win at the South Yorkshire’s club stadium.

Speaking on each of the three goals, Ainsworth, who has seen his side lose their last three league matches, said: “Those goals…wow.

“Three screamers.

“Just been told that Nick Freeman’s anniversary for his ACL injury was a year ago tomorrow [August 21, 2021].

“What a way to get through that year.

“He has been nothing but brilliant in the gym and the physio will be so proud of him today, as it was a brilliant goal.

“His goal is actually the third best of the afternoon, which is ridiculous as all the goals were amazing!

"His and Anis’ goal were very similar but Dom Gape, who thought that would happen.

“It was a brilliant finish from far out, but it’s not three worldie goals that have won us the game.

“We really dug deep against a tough Barnsley side who have just come down from the Championship, and are fancied to be up there at the end of the season.

“I couldn’t be happier.”
