Wycombe Wanderers right-back Jason McCarthy has revealed why he has made four separate transfers to the Chairboys in his career.

Across those stints, he has racked up nearly 200 appearances and was part of two play-off campaigns in 2020 and 2022.

His individual tenures at Adams Park have been split with spells at Barnsley, Millwall, and Walsall respectively, but after penning a contract extension until the end of the 2023/24 season, the 27-year-old has revealed why he feels Wanderers felt like ‘home’.

He told the Bucks Free Press: “Whenever I left, the gaffer [Gareth Ainsworth] always told me that ‘you’ll be playing for me again’ – ‘you’ll be back’, so I always felt that the door was always open for me.

“It started really well at Barnsley but it didn’t end well, it didn’t go great at Millwall, and whenever it didn’t go well, there were always other options but I always wanted to come back to Wycombe.

“If not Wycombe, then where?

“I mean, I know I could go somewhere else but I always felt I was part of a winning formula whenever I came here.

“I’ve played some of my best football here, I like living in the area, I enjoy being here, I’ve got a good relationship with the fans, I know the lads, I love them
so why wouldn’t I play my football here?

“It made sense to always come back.

“It’s my home.”
