The Free Press understands that the imminent sale of Reading's Bearwood Park Training Ground to Wycombe Wanderers will save the long future of the Royals.

Reading FC shocked fans by putting its £50million Bearwood Park site up for sale on Monday, with the Chairboys set to purchase the facility for a rumoured figure of £20-£25million.

It is now hoped that the sale will help save the long-term future of the Royals, who have been hit with multiple points deductions and fines since the start of the season.

The Chairboys and the ex-Premier League side are both due to release a statement today [Thursday, March 14], to confirm that an agreement has been reached for the Buckinghamshire outfit to acquire the state-of-the-art training facility.

The sudden purchase comes four days after Reading revealed they had planned to sell the complex to raise much-needed funds to pay off outstanding debts which include tax bills and wages.

It is believed that advanced talks are in progress and that the sale of Bearwood Park to Wanderers will benefit both parties.

The Royals will be able to wipe clean several outstanding payments, whilst Wycombe get a new training ground to match their Championship ambitions.

The purchase is expected to be funded in part or whole by Mikheil Lomtadze, a former private equity investor from Georgia who generated revenues of $2.9 billion in 2022 and was confirmed by chairman Rob Couhig last month to be entering into a new partnership with the club.

It is also believed that if the sale of the training ground did not go ahead this month, Reading would be likely to go out of business.
