The outdoor pool on The Rye, High Wycombe, the only one of its kind in the South Bucks region, has been earmarked for closure as part of a swingeing string of cuts proposed by Wycombe District Council. Officials argue the pool is too expensive to run in the current financial climate, costing around £45,000 to run for the 13 weeks it is open, and say the pool will need around £60,000 pumped into it over the next two years. However, supporters of the pool, which opened in 1957, say it is a valuable and unique community asset, which should be kept available for future generations. Suzanne Grant, who has swum in the pool since it opened, urged the community to support the campaign to save it. She said: "I was there on the first day it was opened, and I have used it every summer since. I normally go at least twice a week. "I take my six grandchildren there when they come to stay every summer, and we always make sure we have a picnic and go for a swim. They love it as much as I did when I was a little girl. "We have been in this situation before about 11 years ago and we got enough signatures to keep it open, but I can't believe they want to close it again."
