DAMIAN Wilson is coming to High Wycombe tomorrow night as part of his tour, where he will be playing songs from his solo albums. He is a singer-songwriter who has performed as the lead singer in Threshold, Headspace and Landmarq. He has also worked on projects with many other bands and played Jean Valjean in Les Miserables on their UK national tour.

Are you excited about touring? It seems to have become my life and is what I live for, so yes I am excited about touring. I've become so used to being on the move that even when I don't tour, I live on boats or anything that I can wake up in and have a different view and an adventure ahead in the day.

Why did you decide to play a selection you had never performed live before? It is because I only sing songs that I really feel like singing. If I really want to play a song it will have life and almost sing itself. There are too many trying to destroy music with lifeless, emotionless renditions. I refuse to be the monkey, I'll play what I have conviction for. A simple song can become great with a genuine emotional delivery.

How would you describe your music? Honest

Why did you decide to do more solo music? Solo is the real me, when I play with the bands I truly enjoy it and it often brings out a different side of me, but it is a projection of the group.

Which band did/do you must enjoying performing in? I love working with them all.

What do you enjoy about being the front man? I enjoy the contact and interaction with the people. To me the show is our performance, it's as much about the audience as the artist or musicians.

What was it like playing Jean Valjean? An emotional roller coaster every night.

What makes the character special? He is human and I think most people relate with his inner turmoil.

Did you watch the film of Les Mis? Did you like it, if so? I did watch it. Some I liked, some I was disappointed with. It is hard when you have lived a character to watch an others interpretation.

Who have you most enjoyed working with as a guest vocalist? I wouldn't like to single anyone out though some are very quick and easy to work with and still manage to get the best out of you. A good example is the Dutch multi-instrumentalist Arjen Lucassen. He works with wonderful singers and musicians, his new album seems to have every rock icon currently alive. It's a real pleasure working with him.

How old were you when you first realised you could sing? I was singing well before I realised I could.

How did you develop this? Spent a lot of time singing down the subways as a teenager. Once you learn to fill a room with your voice you can silence a hundred men in a second with a simple song.

What can the audience expect from your gig on September 27 in High Wycombe? A group of exceptional musicians and people having a good time, singing, laughing, enjoying life and being together.
