Amersham Concert Club’s second concert of the 2013/2014 season was given by the Blossom Street Singers - an ‘a capella’ octet of singers conducted by Hilary Campbell.

The group grew out of a number of students at York University in 2003 but is now based in London and fully professional with engagements throughout the country and Europe.

Their previous engagements range from entertaining HRH Prince Charles as part of his sixtieth birthday celebrations to singing Christmas Carols at the snooker final in 2005.

The programme consisted of short pieces, mainly from English composers- Holst, Vaughan-Williams and Peter Warlock, to more recent work commissioned by the choir.

Many of the pieces reflected the sea and the folk song tradition and on their recently released CD, “Down by the Sea” produced by Naxos.

The group also performed some Christmas lullabies from their first CD “Sleep, Holy Babe” in recognition of the fast-approaching Christmas season.

The performance was very relaxed and ideally suited to concert club size audiences. It was a very successful evening enjoyed by a small but appreciative audience.
