A BAND said audiences will be liberated by their music, which returns to an improvised structure.

Custard Cream will be playing at The Hobgoblin in High Wycombe this Saturday evening.

Described as a rock blues band, the four piece line up is fronted by Marlow based vocalist and bassist, Andy Barrett.

He promises a night of high energy and virtuoso music inspired by the likes of Cream and Jimi Hendrix.

Unlike tribute and cover bands, which aim to emulate the originals exactly, Custard Cream improvises around classics such as ‘Sunshine of your love’ and ‘Voodoo Chile’ to create an original sound for every performance.

Andy said: "We give audiences the chance to go back to an era when bands free-wheeled and allowed a song to develop on stage.

"Over the past 35 years, live music has increasingly shied away from improvisation in favour of a formal, repetitive structure. But there is a growing interest in a looser approach to live music when almost anything can happen. Our followers find our music more liberating than a lot of the popular music being played now."

While Custard Cream is a relatively new band (it has been performing around the Home Counties since last May) the members are seasoned musicians with more than 130 years performing and recording experience between them.

Drummer Ant Lee (under the name of Tony McMillan) fronted the German rockabilly band The Krewmen while Andy Barrett’s band No Breaks had a number one hit in Bulgaria. Guitarists Nigel Owst and George Skinn have played together in several bands since meeting at school in 70s.
