HEALTHY teeth were the topic of the day when oral health specialists called into Naphill and Walters Ash School.

Dental hygienists from Amersham Health Centre visited the Kilnwood school as part of National Smile Week to judge a poster competition.

Karen Fallon, of the oral health promotions team, said: "The idea of the visit was to teach them the importance of looking after their teeth."

Year Three youngsters created dental awareness posters as part of their IT curriculum, underlining the importance of brushing teeth twice daily and combating plaque.

Mrs Fallon added: "There is no fluoride in the water in Buckinghamshire. It's extremely important children look after their teeth to avoid trouble later on in life.

"The message here is avoid sweets before meals, brush your gums, and most importantly don't rinse your mouth out after brushing you're spitting out all the vital fluoride."

Winners of the poster competition picked up electric toothbrushes, while all pupils went home happy with a goody bag.
