A Tai Chi instructor from Marlow who dedicates her time to preventing loneliness amongst the older generations has won a prize for her work in the community.
Mary Mitchell scooped the community prize at Bucks County Council’s Dignity and Respect Awards on Friday, April 15.
Ms Mitchell runs a Tai Chi class designed specifically for the elderly which was praised for bringing people in the town together.
Around 150 people attended the annual award ceremony which is held by BCC’s Quality in Care Team to highlight the best work in the health and social care sectors.
Vice Chairman of Buckinghamshire County Council, Valerie Letheren, said: “As a County Council, we strive both to ensure that dignity and respect underpin our own work, and are part of the wider agenda in Buckinghamshire.
"I'm glad we can also hold these awards to showcase how these standards are reflected in the tremendous work being carried out by many individuals and organisations throughout Buckinghamshire.
“These wonderful examples of best practice demonstrate how dignity and respect enhance people's lives."
Unfortunately Mary was unable to attend the award ceremony due to illness but Terry Price - who nominated her - collected the award.
