The manager of Wycombe Wanderers FC has paid tribute to a 38-year-old supporter who tragically died last week.

Marlow resident and passionate football fan Glen Fyrth passed away the day after his 38th birthday following a battle with a rare and aggressive cancer - desmoplastic small round cell tumour.

Crowds at Adams Park stadium paid tribute to Glen at the 38th minute of the game on Saturday between Wycombe Wanderers and Stourbridge with a one minute applause.

Gareth Ainsworth has released a tribute to the former Sir William Borlase’s Grammar School Pupil saying he will “always remain a special part of Wycombe Wanderers”.

He said: “Everyone at the club was saddened to hear of Glen’s death at such a young age. He was a similar age to me, with young children like I have, and my deepest condolences go to his friends and family.

“The supporters of this club have a really tight bond, much like a family, so it hurts everyone when we hear tragic news like this. We will think of him at Adams Park on Saturday in our FA Cup match and he will always remain a special part of Wycombe Wanderers.”

A tribute left on the Wycombe Wanderers Trust website described Glen as a “positive and friendly character" who loved a wide range of sport, and as well as supporting Wycombe Wanderers he also had a “huge soft spot” for Tottenham Hotspur.

The tribute said: “Away from sport, Glen’s big love was his music and enjoyed regular visits to festivals. Together with some team mates from Wye Rangers, ‘Element’ was formed, with Glen sharing the lead vocals for the first gig, before becoming a ‘rock God’ on bass.

“They played numerous gigs in pubs around Wycombe and Jersey, as well as the ‘Wales Famous’ Rustonbury Festival and a little venue called The O2!

“However, all of these took a back seat when he met someone as special as he is. Sarah, who lit up his world – rarely has anyone been as obviously joyful as Glen was on their wedding day, in 2010.

“Every time he introduced Sarah he would burst with pride at calling her his wife. Glen helped Sarah care for his step-son Oliver and their daughter Lily, who will both grow up with no doubt in their minds as to just how amazing he was.”

In December friends raised £19,535 to support Glen and his family after setting up a page on fundraising website Just Giving.

The funeral will take place on Thursday at 10.45am in the Milton Chapel at Amersham Crematorium followed by a wake at the Marlow Royal British Legion in Station Approach.

Instead of flowers Glen’s family have asked for money to be donated to Rennie Grove Hospice Care, Sue Ryder Hospice, Nettlebed and RobsARTTT.
