Sick children received an Easter surprise over the weekend after kind-hearted leisure centre members from Marlow donated 60 Easter eggs to a hospice.

Court Garden Leisure Centre members were encouraged to bring in an Easter egg in exchange for a seven-day free pass to the centre, with each egg earning members one pass.

Mike Willis, sales manager at the leisure centre, said the initiative proved popular, with the centre collecting 60 eggs which it donated to the Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service, in Maidenhead.

The hospice, which supports children with life-limiting and life-threatening illnesses, and their families, is set to welcome families into its new centre opening later this year.

Mr Willis said: “They do home visits at the moment but they are going to open their doors to the first families around May, June time.

“Because we are not-for-profit, we thought ‘let’s help some kids and give them something they might not get otherwise’.

“[The hospice] was absolutely delighted with the donation. It’s an incredible place.”

The hospice delivered the eggs to delighted children at the weekend, and any left over will be used towards its fundraising efforts.

Fi Lawes, community fundraiser for the hospice, said: “While we are Maidenhead-based, we do support families in the south Bucks area and so it is wonderful to be able to share our story with people in the area.

“It was lovely to have support from the Marlow area.”
