Wycombe Hospital

Dear Mr Baker,

I shall not make this reply personal as I know that as a Conservative MP that you have made an oath to your Party (that all Conservative Candidates are asked in their selection interviews that in a situation whereby you are given the choice to support your constituents or your party’s views which would you chose? – or similar worded). Those potential candidates are not chosen if they give the answer ‘their constituents’.

Also I know as a former Conservative that whatever you write in the media has to be checked and approved by the party and if you wrote your own views without consent then you could be left un-whipped or realistically seen as a trouble maker and possibly not re-selected the next time that we have a General Election.

This is one of the main reasons that I chose to leave Party Politics and to stand as an Independent because I can say what I really mean and listen and speak on behalf of people living within Wycombe.

I nearly fell off my chair when I read you saying (and I shall quote you) “I think it’s unreasonable to say we should be demanding A&E and maternity back.”

????

I may not be alone when I say this “I do think that it’s reasonable to fight to get these services back to Wycombe Hospital along with the others that we have lost in the last few years.”

I also think that the political system that we currently have is no longer fit for purpose.

It is not democratic, especially that there are in reality only a handful of towns in the UK which are classed as swing towns (which are democratic) and the others are at large either typical Labour, Conservative or LibDem voting towns (with the exception of regions such as Northern Island, Wales and parts of Scotland) The last time that Wycombe had an MP which wasn’t Tory was nearly 70 years ago! It is classed as a Conservative safe seat area whereby new candidates are parachuted in each time that the incumbent sitting member chooses to retire/stand down, etc

In ye olden days I can understand that the political elite could rule over the masses and get away with this system but it still shocks me to how ‘fixed’ the system is - being in favour of the x3 main parties – that in one shape or another that they sooner or later find themselves in power and then like a merry-go-round swap over every so often.

I think also that I am not alone in saying that I’m fed up with party political point scoring – I pay my taxes and expect to have a return in services such as an A&E department in our town. The Government is playing with people’s lives by taking away these crucial services. I am honestly fearful being a parent and in the future being faced with the dilemma to which hospital would I rush my child to in an emergency situation now that we no longer have an A&E department.

To give you specifics, I hear that even ambulance drivers are not sure which hospitals to take people to that in some cases patients are driven to two or even three different hospitals before they are treated.

Please rise above party politics and help us? Really help us, even if it means leaving your party to stand up for us in Wycombe rather than being told what the party view is on situation such as this one.

Regards

Darren Hayday
