CAMPAIGNERS are set to celebrate a deal to buy their village pub after fearing its permanent closure.

The ‘Save The Garibaldi’ group says it has exchanged contracts to purchase the Bourne End pub this week, and expect it to be owned by the community by February 8.

The Garibaldi had been operating under a short-term lease arrangement after owner Punch Taverns put the freehold up for sale for £425,000.

An estate agent was advertising its potential for residential conversion, but more than 100 Hedsor residents joined the campaign to buy the freehold and keep the premises as a pub.
