147 county council jobs could go by June

UP to 147 jobs at Buckinghamshire County Council could go between now and June.

The authority, responsible for roads and schools among other services, announced its budget plans last week and has told the BFP these posts may be lost in the first five months of 2013.

Redundancies are not necessarily going to occur in all of the 147 positions, officials said.

But the move is part of ongoing cut backs as funding from central Government continues to be reduced.

The council said it total savings over the last three years now amount to £68 million.

The numbers of staff at the council have already dropped from over 4,150 in September 2009 to 3,231 in September 2012, its latest figures show. These do not include teachers or school staff.

Council leader Martin Tett last week said more “back office savings” were being made for the next financial year, starting in April and officials have now said these are predominantly from services such as HR, Finance, ICT, Business Support, Property and Legal Services.

Aidan Shutter, council spokesman, said: “We send regular reports to the Dept. for Business Innovation and Skills on projected redundancies across the organisation.

“At present we have declared that up to 147 posts may be lost between January and June 2013.

“Not all these will result in redundancies as some are vacant and some covered by temporary staff. “We have a strong track record of managing workforce reductions so that they have the minimum impact on employees.

“The county council is constantly striving to find more efficient ways of delivering services or automating processes.”

He added: “In addition to finding more effective ways of delivering back office services, the county council is also delivering more income which is helping to close the budget gaps and protect vital front line services.”

Well you can bet these won't be jobs at the top, they will probably be the lowest paid filing clerks/tea makers, and other menial positions.

How about some of the top brass go???

I wonder if any of these cuts will affect Chris Williams, Chief Executive (salary £207,000), Trevor Boyd, Strategic Director (salary £129,000), Sue Imbriano, Strategic Director (salary £142,000), Neil Gibson, Strategic Director (salary £142,000) Gill Hibberd, Strategic Director (salary £142,000), Richard Ambrose, Service Director (salary £110,000), Sarah Ashmead, Service Director (salary £80,000)?
And they try to tell us they are a "cash-strapped council!!"

I could think of plenty ways of saving money without getting rid of the staff on the front line. Firstly, getting rid of some of the people at the top who quite honestly have no idea what is going on at the bottom. Or perhaps thinking of a better way to buy paper / milk that doesn't involve tendering out a contract ... just go to asda!!!

So HMV major job losses, jobs from the council going.
And the government encouraging the belief that all people on unemployment benefit are workshy and wanting to cut it more.
Less jobs,more unemployment,less money being spent so even more jobs being loss.
This is truly awful... the rich get richer, the poor get poorer and the middle get squeezed.

None should now be left ignorant as to how it is that this terminal legacy of debt has been brought in and how profoundly fraudulent the entire system is.

You and I on a daily basis are expected to forgive one another for minor trespasses. What has happened that enables the banking system, both national and global to be empowered to utterly disregard the precautionary principle that is the foundation of the legislature

People are being driven into a desperate condition, is the intention to kill by means of the four horses? I think it is and so do increasing numbers of others.

Well it surely time to 'cut one's coat according to one's cloth'. It is well past the time when the management structure of BCC is revised, downwards, to fit the budgets available.
Some time ago WDC reduced the number of directors by 50% and the number of Heads of Service by 45% will little if any reduction of the staff deliverig and supporting services to the public.
It is now time for such a reorganisation in BCC to reduce the management overhead and bring service delivery into the 21st Century.
