Updated 8.30am.

NEARLY 30 schools have now announced they will be changing their operating hours today, with at least a couple still staying shut due to snow.

The Chalfonts Children's Centre and Hardwick Pre-School in Aylesbury were the only ones to say they would definitely shut as of yesterday at 5.40pm.

Those altering the times they open and close are:

I also agree. Schools should be open. It isn’t snowing and not due to. The roads have been gritted. There would be a big cost to our economy for at least x1 parent not working today to look after their children.

often it's some H+S issue due to snow in the playground. I'm sure the parent's would rally around to clear the snow, rather than taking a day off work to childmind.

According to one news report last night, heads are closing schools rather than having low attendance figures as this will affect the way they are ranking in the government league tables. So it seems they are more interested in ranking rather than the education of this countries children..

It is ridiculous! For example, I drove through Wooburn Green yesterday. (The Meadows School was closed). There was hardly any snow around and there can't be any pupils who do not live in walking distance of the school. If the playground was icy, then the children could have spent their breaks in the hall or classrooms. It is crazy that any parents would have had to use a day's annual leave in such circumstances.

I work in a school (not a teacher) and we opened on Friday and had a large number of complaints from parents that we had opened when a number of schools had chosen to close. We did close early on that day (as did the work places of a number of my friends who work in the private sector - I know this does not apply to everyone) We had parents trying to take their children out of school in the morning because of the snow.

We did not open on Monday, although I did not have an issue with coming in to work I was told that I was not allowed due to the site being unsafe.

We are open today and have had parents call in saying that they still can not bring their children in as they feel the side roads are too unsafe.

Those that were taken out of school were listed as having an unauthorised absence and the parents informed.......

If parents choose / cannot bring them into school because of the snow or ice it is an authorised 'special circumstance' absence. This is a government tactic to prevent schools closing due to fears of attendance dropping. All well and good parents moaning we shut, but there seems to be enough parents not willing to risk walking on the ice. The pavements around my workplace haven't been touched and are deadly.
