MORE than 50 schools attended a digital open learning day at John Hampden Grammar School which aimed to highlight the benefits of technology in modern education.

The event was held in conjunction with WestWon, parental donation scheme providers, and Apple product reseller, the Square Group.

WestWon showcased its latest feat in technology, the Parent Portal, at the March 25 event, which welcomed representatives from other schools to learn about the benefits of digital learning.

Attendees hear from both pupils and teachers as to the impact techonology has had on education at the school.

WestWon’s CEO, Jeremy Hall said: "Schools are increasingly turning to mobile devices such as iPads and other tablets as an additional or preferred platform for learning."

WestWon’s The Parent Portal allows parents to donate money towards the costs of their child’s iPad using an easy and secure portal, the WestPoint Portal, which can be accessed online. This frees the schools of any admin burdens and allows them to track devices and manage insurance claims.

The Parent Portal also gives parents the option to buy the device for a small fee at the end of the rental period. Janet Willis, the Marketing Manager of WestWon, thought the Open Day was a huge success and that both schools and parents who did not know about digital learning and the Parent Portal are more informed and ready to get on board.

She said: "We are delighted that the WestWon Parent Portal can fully support schools in achieving their educational objectives through the introduction of new technology."
