EXPERTS are analysing the findings of a structural study of the Abbey Way flyover – which has now been partially closed for almost three months.

Transport for Buckinghamshire said the report from the “intrusive inspection” of the flyover is currently being scrutinised and the findings are finally expected to be revealed at the end of the month.

The county council’s transportation arm has remained tight-lipped about the condition of the flyover or the nature of the probe, after previously stating the results of the investigation would be available in June.

Lane closures have now been in place since May 12 following the “inconclusive” findings of a routine inspection.

The closures will continue as TfB says it “remains the best short-term solution”.

A TfB statement states: “The onsite inspection of Abbey Way flyover has now been completed and the report is currently being analysed, including detailed modelling of the bridge condition.

“This will include some additional analysis that the County Council has requested.

“The road is currently open to all traffic in one lane in each direction. Early indications are that this remains the best short term solution.

“It should be noted that the restriction to one lane in both directions has not had a major impact on congestion in the town during the prolonged period of the inspection works.”
