A SQUADRON of mums took on the Great North Run for charity this month dressed as toy soldiers.

The six Flackwell Heath women made the long trip north to Tyneside for the 13.1-mile race to raise money for Alzheimer’s.

The team were a big hit with the crowds in their military outfits, with the support spurring them on before crossing the line hand-in-hand.

And the troops had a chance encounter before the race with High Wycombe mayor Trevor Snaith, who ran in his gold chain to raise money for his nominated charities One Can Trust and Child Bereavement UK.

Kerri Cicirello, one of the six toy soldiers, said: "The outfits we wear just get more and more outrageous and it was hard going in the uniforms.

"It was nice to have the crowd behind us which spurred us on, and the local paper up there listed us in the top 50 best dressed which was great.

"One of the girls was ill on the day too so that really kept us going. We saw the mayor but I’m not exactly sure where he finished in the end."

Kerri, along with Dawn Martin, Julie Santos, Karen McKenzie, Marie Miller and Wendy Walden finished the gruelling course in around two and a half hours.

The team decided to choose the Alzheimer’s Society as their preferred charity having had family members affected with the disease.
