Your front-page report of traders’ power cuts in Marlow (Marlow Free Press, September 20) prompts me to castigate our MPs for their barmy obsession with green energy, all springing from their greed for something apparently free such as wind power (it’s not!) and their silly belief that mankind’s fossil-fuel burning is going to cause disastrous climate change (which straight-forward scientific analysis disproves). This is the most likely cause of the power cuts, as the result of the crazy EU diktat of shutting down our major coal-fired power stations and relying instead on fickle wind turbines and day-time-only solar energy.

Can’t someone drill into them that these ridiculously expensive and inherently unreliable energy sources are simply imbecilic pipe dreams? They need a rocket put under them to get on with efficiently harnessing the world’s remaining store of fossil fuels, while at the same time pressing ahead with developing the safest and least polluting forms of nuclear energy. I write as a former nuclear power pioneer.
