It is with a hint of sadness that I write to the Bucks Free Press from High Wycombe for the last time because we are moving to God’s county – Norfolk.

High Wycombe and the whole of the south east have changed drastically in the 40 years we have been living here: far too many people, too much traffic and manners have taken a back seat. Litter everywhere, I could go on but it is all too depressing.

I would like to thank, not in any particular order the following: 1. The BFP for your excellent paper and for publishing so many of my letters.

2. High Wycombe Rugby Union Club (not the fly-by-night-Wasps) for many happy years and tours and outings. I am proud to remain a member.

3. The High Wycombe Society, that tries to protect us from developers etc, well worth joining. I am proud to remain a member.

4. The Chiltern Society for their continued protection of our wonderful Chilterns. I am proud to remain a member.

5. The Red Cross High Wycombe, of which I have been a member for many years. Just check out their Medical loan facility where you can borrow, for a donation, all manner of medical aids and much more. Worth joining 6. National Trust at Hughenden Manor. I have volunteered there for the last two or so years. Bless the NT for maintaining all the lovely buildings, parks and gardens. If you are at a loose end, try them out, very friendly.

7. The Royal Air Force Association in HW. The host of services they provide is very worthwhile and they always welcome new members and you don’t need to have been in the RAF. Check out their splendid club house in Totteridge Road.

8. Last but not least all the wonderful people in Earl Close who have been good friends and neighbours over the last 34 years. So many of them are willing to pitch in and help in times of need. I just hope they continue with the annual Close parties, if they do – invite please.

Sorry to those I have omitted, but rest assured we will be very happy up in the much more pleasant and relaxed atmosphere (in both senses of the word) of dear old Norfolk and, what’s not to like, only ten minutes drive or so from the beach.

Goodbye High Wycombe and thanks.
