IT will be a very blustery day on Monday with winds reaching up to 50mph, a Hazlemere weatherman has said.

Jim Dale from British Weather Services said the wind will be the main problem on Monday and not the rain.

But he also pointed out that as we are in autumn, the unchangeable weather we have been experiencing is not unexpected.

He said on Monday there will be rain in the morning but mostly dry for the rest of the day, but winds will be between 40 and 50mph.

Mr Dale said: "Batten down the hatches a little. It is some days off yet. Precautions that need to be taken are put your cars in garages if you can.

"Put away garden stuff that might fly around. "Generally tie down anything that could be lifted by the wind. There is not much else you can do."

There have been some predictions in the national news that we could have one of the worst winters in years. Mr Dale said they won't be putting their winter forecast out until the end of the month.

But he said: "If you are reading the Daily Express you would have slit your wrists by now.

"I will use these words- people should choose their media outlets very carefully for information such as this.

"There is nothing, at this moment in time, that would suggest the winter will be as bad as it is being predicted.

"Not to say it won't have its moments- that would be folly. It will have its moments.

"But I don't think it is time to go into mass panic. It is too premature.

"Winters come and winters go. Good preparation is everything. "Do things now while it is ok and not when you are knee deep in snow."
