A PRINCES Risborough scooter club raised more than £1,000 for Iain Rennie Hospice despite only forming less than a year ago.

The Double Diamonds, who so far have around 20 members, relied on donations from others and the ticket sales from their first scooter rally.

Chairman of the Double Diamonds, Frankie Smith, 54, said: "We didn’t expect to raise as much money as we did.

"It was our first rally, we have been going for under a year; we only expected to raise about £300."

However, through offering prizes such as a flight for two on a privately owned aeroplane the club was able to produce enough interest to raise more than three times what they targeted.

The money will help fund more nurses for both adults and children in the community.

The money was handed over to a Iain Rennie Hospice representative at another fundraising evening at the Bird in Hand pub in Risborough this month.

Iain Rennie worker, Annette Luck, said: "I would like to give a huge hug to everyone who helped raise the money."

She said it will really make a difference to the adults and children who want to spend their last days at their homes.

The event was also attended by the Mayor of Princes Risborough Town Council, Alan Turner. He said: "A big thank you to all of those who have taken part to raise money, well done to you."
