A CONSULTATION over major improvements for Beaconsfield cyclists goes on display this weekend, including plans for an overhaul of a dangerous junction.

The plans on show from Bucks County Council tomorrow include a £200,000 makeover of Station Road to make it more pedestrian and cycle friendly.

The funding was secured thanks to help from cycling safety activists The Beaconsfield Cycle Path Action Group and sustainable transport charity Sustrans.

But the money will be lost unless spent by next March, with a consultation from BCC and its contractor Jacobs at Beaconsfield Town Hall set to showcase the potential redesign.

Action group member Fiona Wilson said: "We will be advertising the consultation by putting notices by bikes and near the station.

"There will be representatives from the county council and the cycle group there to talk through the plans and get people’s comments, and we will be running a bike marking event around it.

"It’s definitely a positive and good that it’s moving quickly. I haven’t seen the final plans yet but it is a step in the right direction."

The move is part of a major investment which will also see cycle parking near the station doubled, increased signage and a study into a full-scale cycle path network for the town.

The action group has helped council officers map out an aspirational cycle route network across Beaconsfield, which will also be on show to the public during the consultation, which runs from 11am until 3pm.

Cycle enthusiasts are encouraged to bring their bikes, with a led cycle ride around Beaconsfield leaving at 2pm.
