Marlow betting shop gets the green light
ALL bets are off on a bookmaker moving into an empty Marlow store after councillors agreed to the plans.
William Hill plans to open a store in a section of the former Blockbuster video shop on West Street.
And Wycombe District Council ruled in favour of the proposal this week, despite some residents objecting to the move.
Resident Sarah Whelan, who lives on West Street, said: “Betting offices tend to make money out of peoples misfortunes and usual prey on society’s most vulnerable - does Marlow really want to encourage this behaviour?
“Having lived in Marlow for most of my life I feel a sense of pride coming from such a wonderful town, to now have planning for a Domino's pizza and potentially this betting office is very short-sighted as the long terms impact on the success of the town will be significantly impacted.”
Marlow Town Council’s Planning Committee also voiced no objection when they looked at plans for the shop’s illuminated signs this week.
William Hill will take over one portion of the closed Blockbuster building, with Domino’s Pizza already gaining permission to open up in the other half.
