ABOUT 100 homes could be built on a site adjacent to one of Wycombe’s oldest family businesses – furniture manufacturer Verco.
Verco said it plans to consolidate its operations and release land between its base in Chapel Lane and Mill End Road to make way for the proposed housing development.
The furniture firm, which was established in 1912 and employs more than 100 people, is working with developer Taylor Wimpey on the plans.
Jeff Roberts, Finance Director at Verco, said: “We’re proud to be one of the longest-established family businesses in High Wycombe and we’re planning to remain very much a part of the town’s commercial landscape, providing jobs for local people, for a long time to come.
“In order to cement our place as one of Britain’s biggest and best office furniture manufacturers, it’s essential that we’re totally focused on staying ahead of the competition.
“That’s why we’re looking to release the land value of a redundant part of our site to generate funding for vital improvements and new equipment.”
A public exhibition will be held at Millbrook Combined School between 3pm and 8pm on March 27, Verco has announced.
Andrew Moore from Taylor Wimpey said: “Wycombe District Council is addressing the need for new homes to be built across the local area by consulting on potential site allocations for its forthcoming Local Plan.
“The more previously-developed sites which can be brought forward, the less greenfield land will be required to fulfil this need.
“The land adjacent to the Verco site represents an ideal development opportunity thanks to its sustainable location with good transport connections already in place.
“By releasing this site for development, Verco will also be able to unlock valuable capital to invest in its future prosperity and maintain job security for its employees.”
