A SHOPKEEPING couple who have been a fixture in Marlow for over 30 years have been honoured for their efforts in raising money for a flood-hit activity centre.
David and Julie Cooper, who have run D&J News on West Street for 31 years, have been awarded Marlow FM’s ‘Shopkeeper of the month’ by DJ Michael Eagleton for their in-store fundraising efforts for Longridge in Marlow.
The newagent pair, whose daily routine sees them take paper deliveries at 4am every morning, handed over a cheque for £300 to Longridge founder Amanda Foister live on air from the radio station’s studios at the riverside centre.
D&G News is one of the last remaining businesses in Marlow to deliver daily papers, with David revealing he employs a 93-year-old paper deliverer as part of his team.
After Longridge sustained significant damage in the recent floods, The Coopers started a collection from their shop to help the stricken centre in its clean-up efforts.
