DAVID Meacock has been chosen as UKIP's prospective Parliamentary candidate for Wycombe in next year's General Election.

Currently the ward councillor for Chalfont Common with Chiltern District Council, he was selected to stand for Parliament in a poll of UKIP Wycombe's members on Monday.

Cllr Meacock defected from the Conservatives to join what he called 'the people's party' last year after becoming disillusioned with the Tories.

He said he defected because of what he called Chiltern councillors' 'ineffective opposition' to HS2, and because of Westminster's continuing debt problems and the introduction of the gay marriage bill.

Cllr Meacock was elected to the new UKIP Councillors Association earlier this year after organising party leader Nigel Farage's visit to Amersham, Beaconsfield and Chalfont St Peter.

He said: "It has been a great honour to be chosen to be UKIP’s prospective Parliamentary candidate for the Wycombe constituency, and to give the people of Wycombe an opportunity to vote for the people’s party, UKIP.

"UKIP is the only party which will free us all from the shackles of 75 per cent of our laws and regulations being made in Brussels – which is why, frankly, there is barely a cigarette paper between the three tired old EU-loving and compliant parties.

"UKIP’s truly phenomenal rise since the 2010 General Election to nearly a third of the vote and the second party in last May’s Bucks County Council elections, in only three years, has not been matched by any new political party in the past."

He added: "I hope Out of the EU to trade with the world, especially Commonwealth countries – a world market so big that the sun never sets on it – will resonate with Wycombe voters."

UKIP Wycombe Chairman Brian Mapletoft added: "I hope constituents will rally behind David and support a truly local candidate who has lived in Bucks since the age of three."

He added members would start their campaign for the European elections over the next six weeks.
