THIRTEEN bands took to the stage as a concert in High Wycombe raised nearly £1,500 for Cancer Research.

Ten hours of live music filled the air at the Cressex Community Centre on Sunday in an event organised by a cancer survivor.

A total of £1,456.11 was raised at the gig, called Research Rocks - all of which will be donated to charity.

Event organiser Sarah Conneely - who beat cervical cancer last year - said: "Cancer affects everyone and all the artists on Sunday had their own reasons for performing. Some have lost loved ones, some have survived, and some know survivors.

"Whatever the reason, we are grateful for their time, effort and passion for the cause.

"Every one of them brought their talent and their voices and put their heart and soul into putting on an amazing, unforgettable show for everybody. They are all very special people."

A second Research Rocks gig is planned for next year, while many of the bands who played at Sunday's concert will be performing again in October at an event called Stand Up To Cancer.
