Oh dear, I rather hoped the Rev Peter Simpson had either gone away or gone quiet but I see he is back in the BFP (April 25) with even more bizarre claims than his usual claptrap.

I am sorry but I find it impossible to respond “courteously” (Mr Simpson’s repeated Uriah Heep-ish phrase) to this man. In his latest missive, he first claims that evolution is “unobservable and untestable”, both of which are factually incorrect.

Darwin’s original work on evolution was based on observation (of Galapagos finches) and much research work has been done since to prove his hypothesis beyond any sensible doubt. Mr Simpson then goes on to claim it is “the Lord Jesus Christ who upholds the earth’s climate each day”.

This interesting hypothesis would seem to make Jesus responsible for Hurricane Katrina, the Japanese tsunami and other climate-related events, including all the deaths resulting therefrom.

Which doesn’t sound like the loving God espoused by Mr Simpson on previous occasions. I find it literally incredible that any rational mind could believe this stuff.
