WORK to temporarily relocate the Cressex Park-and-Ride will begin on Sunday night – to enable construction to begin on the Next Home store.

The park-and-ride and waiting room will be moved to the west side of the car-park, with a revised road network in place from Monday morning.

Bus times will be unchanged, Wycombe District Council said.

Work will then begin on creating the Next Home store on the east side of the car-park opposite Empire Cinema and Frankie & Benny’s restaurant.

The retail giant’s 7,261sqm ‘flagship’ home and garden store is expected to create 220 new jobs.

Next will also provide a new bus service linking the site to High Wycombe and will also pay £1.34m in a Community Infrastructure Levy which will be used to improve the town centre.

A coachway park-and-ride will be built at the multi-million-pound Handy Cross Hub project, which will include the new Wycombe Sports Centre - which is already being built - a hotel and offices.

Waitrose announced yesterday that it will move into the food store that will be built on the site.

The sports centre, coachway and Waitrose are all set to open next year.

One thing I'd like to know: Will there be decent, properly segregated pedestrian and cycle paths linking John Lewis/Asda/Next/Cine
ma to the Coachway/Sports Centre/Waitrose?

jayeatman, - should be able to walk/ride anywhere as the whole area is going to gridlock!

We have seen what happens during the sales at JL so add this and nothing is going to be moving unless someone does something about Handy Cross

Indeed, but if a decent alternative to getting in your car were provided, perhaps less people would get in their cars and clog up HandyX. The JL problem is caused by rubbish access to a large car park. If that was improved then it wouldn't have a knock on effect on the wider area.

Some jobs worth trying to also save money by using the access road going past the YMCA into the temp site...that would be nice to have the Park and Ride bus coming past every few mins! if they aren’t careful, the whole area will be gridlocked after all this is built. WDC trying to get yet more money into their coffers (which is our money actually!) and not thinking about the infrastructure not being able to cope.

Developments like this aren't doing town centres any favours particularly Wycombe. What is happening to the Chiltern Centre?

I just hope that Next do not operate in the same way John Lewis does and tells it's staff that they cannot park in the car park as that's for customers....go and park in the nearby roads. Go and park on pavements and over drop kerbs and don't forget to block access for wheelchairs, buggies and prams too!

LOL! Keeps on banging on about wasted money, 'our pound' bla, bla, bla. Seems to forget that the Conservative run WDC has frozen council tax again.

All spouted from the Tory who quit because he couldn't get in he cabinet. Best decision they ever made!
