A FORMER mayor took to the airwaves last week to recount his memories of wartime Marlow.

Maurice Oram was a special guest on Marlow FM on Wednesday, when he entertained listeners on a show dedicated to D-Day.

Mr Oram, who held the office of mayor for two years in 1991 and 1992, told presenters Mary Flavelle and Carla Delaney about when bombers hovered over the town.

He recalled that as a nine-year-old cricket in Higginson Park in July of 1944, he and his friends dropped to the ground after hearing a doodlebug overhead.

The bomb eventually fell at Bovingdon Green, injuring a young Jim Platt, now firector at Platts Garage.

A popular figure in Marlow, Mr Oram remains in the town where he was born and raised
