NUMBERS were slightly down at the Penn Seven at the weekend, with organisers putting it down to the late night football match the previous evening.

There were 290 runners in the Penn Seven at 11am on Sunday morning from the Tylers Green Common, which is about 100 down from last year.

But numbers picked up in the afternoon for the three mile super fun run at 2.30pm with 600 runners.

Race organiser, Phil Duffy, said: "It was a successful event. Numbers were slightly down on numbers for the main race but we put that down to the late night football on the Saturday night.

"Numbers increased dramatically from lunch time onwards."

England played Italy in the World Cup on the Saturday night at 11pm.

The annual Penn Seven was back in its usual spot of Father's Day. For the past few years it was moved due to other races taking place.

Ben Sutherland came in first with a time of 41m05s and he also won the fun run.

The first woman home in the Penn Seven was Jessica Downs with a time of 46m18s.

Phil said: "It was a bit of an overcast day- there was no rain or wind as we had last year and we didn't lose any gazebos- everything stayed on the ground."

The day finished with a very competitive tug of war, which the local scouts group won.

Lord Howe awarded the winners with their trophies.

All money raised will be split between Rennie Grove Hospice Care and Wycombe Homeless Connection.
