PUPILS at Highcrest Academy showcased their art work last week in their first major exhibition for two years.

The art was on display in the Hatters Lane school's main hall and combined exhibitions from students working at GCSE, A/S and A Level.

The pieces will be part of their final mark in each.

High Wycombe Mayor Khalil Ahmed and Wycombe District Council Chairman Lesley Clarke both paid glowing tributes after viewing the impressive array of work at the event on Thursday evening.

Cllr Ahmed said: "I think it’s an amazing display of very impressive work done by outstanding students."

Cllr Clarke described the art as ‘wonderful’, adding: "The standard is absolutely top notch. You want to go and touch some of the stuff because it looks so real."

The display included a range of paintings, drawings, mixed media pieces and 3D sculptures from Years 10, 11 and 12.

It was the first major art show at the academy in Hatters Lane, High Wycombe, for two years. About 100 people, including students and their families, turned up to view it.

"It was a great success," said Rea Davis, the teacher who organised the exhibition. "We had a very good turn-out and I think everyone really enjoyed the work."

A-level student Lauren Keen, 17, whose work was on display, said: "I think it’s been an amazing opportunity for people to showcase their work and allow their family and friends to see it."

Sinead Lewin, 17, had her art work on display and said she was really pleased with her final butterfly piece.

Kimberley Yusufu, 15, drew different flowers with coloured pencils for her final piece.

She said: "Art it my favourite subject. I am not quite sure what I want to do yet, but something to do with designing."

Sir William Ramsay School is holding its student art exhibition on July 8 from 4 to 7pm.
