A WOMAN in her thirties was sexually assaulted after being approached by a man in Chesham this morning.

The man went up to the victim at the junction of Lyndhurst Road and Overdale Road at about 2.30am today, when he pushed her into a hedge after starting talking to her.

It is thought the man ran off in the direction of Nightingale Road after a group of men in a car shouted something as they drove past.

The offender is described as white, aged in his early twenties, with short black hair.

He is about 5ft 8ins to 5ft 9ins tall and has a brown beard with very short stubble. He was wearing black tracksuit bottoms with a grey or brown Nike shirt.

Detective Sgt Simon Johnson from Force CID said: “This was obviously a frightening incident for the woman involved.

“Officers are working to trace the suspect and I would urge anyone who was in the area around this time, who may have seen something, to come forward and speak to us as soon as possible.

“I am also very keen to speak to the men who were in the car which drove past during the incident. They may have vital information which could help us with our investigation.

“Officers are making enquiries and patrolling the area to offer reassurance to local residents and if anyone has any concerns they should speak with officers who can help to address these.”

Police are now appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information.

Officers would also like to speak to the men, who were described as Asian, who were in the small white car which drove past as they may have witnessed the incident.

Anyone with information should contact police on 101.
