A SPECIAL motoring attraction will take centre stage at the first of a series of grammar school reunions this month - the result of a half-century long vow.

In the 1950s, Robin Pitman, the then Art Master at Marlow's Sir William Borlase Grammar School, brought his brand new Bristol 403 car close to the school cloisters – a supercar at the time, the students were given a design tutorial centring on the sought-after motor.

Now John Manly, one of those pupils, is bringing his very own Bristol 403 to put on display for a reunion of Old Borlasians on Saturday, September 27.

And this occasion will be a doubly special event since it is the first of the school’s reunions since the alumni relations programme was set up.

Mr Manly said: "Twenty young boys all lusted after owning such a vehicle one day.

"It took me until 1972 before I became the proud owner of such a model, and I will be pleased to display it at school among my contemporaries."

Celia Blakeway-Phillips, development director at Sir William Borlase, added: "It is really exciting that through the reunions, Old Borlasians will have the opportunity to see their contemporaries again – some for the first time since school.

"It is a real honour to be part of bringing Old Borlasians together again."

Staff say there has been a good response for the 1930s-1974 reunion to be held on Saturday 27th September at the school between 2pm and 5pm.

A second day of reunions will be on Saturday, October 11 for those who left Borlase between 1980-1984 and 1990-1994.
