SCHOOLCHILDREN across the county are being asked to think about ways to 'look out for each other' around busy traffic routes by designing road safety banners as part of a competition.

For the sixth year running, promotional products, badges and school uniform specialist Recognition Express South Bucks is joining forces with national road safety charity Brake to hold the contest, which will mark Road Safety Week, running from November 17 to 23.

Each participating school will get free annual membership to Brake, which will include a Road Safety Week e-action pack with downloadable posters and tips on activities that schools can run, as well as on-going news bulletins on other Brake initiatives and campaigns.

Andy Lian, owner of Recognition Express South Bucks, says: "We receive more interest in our road safety banners competition every year, and the quality of entries is always very high. This year’s theme about looking out for others applies to children and adults alike. I am sure pupils will have a lot of fun designing banners to communicate this very important message and we look forward to seeing the entries.

"Brake does an excellent job of keeping road safety on the political agenda and we fully support the campaign calling on drivers to protect people on foot and bike by slowing down to 20 in communities, looking twice and taking it slow at junctions and bends, and giving people plenty of room."

This year’s campaign will also urge those on foot and bike not to take chances, and to make sure they can be seen.

Winners will be presented with a large-scale printed banner featuring their design for display outside their school. Schools will also get a high-visibility drawstring bag for every pupil and the child behind the winning design will be given a special award. Entrants can be aged from four to 11 years old.

Schools will get an email direct from Brake during the first weeks of September. Competition entry details are also available at www.re-southbucks.co.uk/roadsafetyweek or by contacting Andy Lian by email: sales@re-southbucks.co.uk. The closing date for entries is Friday, October 10.
