ANY residents of Bucks who felt inspired by the site of Sir Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish zooming past them on the Tour of Britain are set to have some help to get going on their bikes.

Stage Six of the Tour of Britain took the peloton from Bath to Hemel Hempstead along a 205km route that passed through Chinnor, Princes Risborough, Great Missenden and Chesham on Friday.

Alex Dowsett won both King of the Mountain climbs plus an intermediate sprint in what he described as the hardest day of racing in his life.

Now anyone who wants to get pedalling but is not sure where to start can have a helping hand from Leap, the county sport and activity partnership for Bucks and Milton Keynes which his hoping to get people living healthier lives.

Leap has a handy new activity internet search listing hundreds of regular sports and physical activities available on your doorstep, whether you want to go on two wheels, on the water or in the playing field or gym. From beginner running groups to badminton, netball, rowing or aerobics sessions, there are a variety of sessions taking place across the county. And you don’t have to be an athlete to join in; many sessions are designed for beginners or people returning to activity and ease you in gradually.

Being active keeps your heart healthy, reduces your risk of serious illness and strengthens muscles and bones. It can also be a way of reducing stress and lifting your mood.

Mark Ormerod, Director of Leap, said: "Working, studying and caring for others can mean there isn’t much free time, but being active doesn’t have to be about pumping iron or running for miles, there are lots of different ways to be more active."

Clubs and organisations are encouraged to add to the growing list of regular activities the length and breadth of the county, so if you are looking for something new to try or are wanting to enjoy some great free publicity for your club or organisation, then visit www.leapwithus.org.uk
