AN INTREPID adventurer who rode, ran, rowed across the country for charity with his dedicated team has donated the last slice of his fundraising to two Marlow charities.
Ian Maiden raised nearly £20,000 when he and seven friends completed the unusual 780-mile triathlon in May.
The 44-year-old financial adviser from Marlow has given most of the money to Marlow Opportunity Playgroup, which helps children with special needs.
And the team have repaid the kindness of Marlow Rowing Club by making a donation of £2500 to its fund to rebuild the fire-hit clubhouse fund after the riverside club lent their expertise for the challenge.
Club deputy chairman John Yeatman said: “They raised money for us as we taught them to row, and they wanted to hand the cash over to us at the club. It was a very nice gesture.”
The crew generated almost £20,000 for the unique charity playgroup, which needs £35,000 a year just to stay open.
Playgroup leader Jane Gibbons said: “We’ve been involved with the Run Ride Row team for quite a while now and it’s been fantastic.
“They raised a massive amount of money, it makes such a difference to us. We have to fund ourselves as we need to pay for the one on one support for the children.”
The playgroup, which used to be based at the Red Cross building in Marlow, celebrates ten years in its current Wooburn Green Scout hut home in 2015.
