Pupils from a Wycombe school raised thousands of pounds to install a well in a Kenyan village.

Hundreds of Kenyan villagers now have access to clean drinking water after students at Wycombe High School, in Marlow Road, raised nearly £9,000.

The work was carried out by The Water Project who installed the well in Emahungu.

Headteacher, Sharon Cromie, said: “This is an achievement we can all be proud of and one that highlights the humanitarian and philanthropic attributes of our school.”

Helen Lindsey-Clark, charity coordinator, said: “I am delighted that our students can now visualise the impact of their efforts on a small community in Kenya.

“We fundraised hard for a whole school year and raised £8,856.11.”

Ms Lindsey-Clark said: “Over the past 12 months we have followed regular updates on this project and are now thrilled that so many people from the Emahungu primary school and its surrounding community can benefit from clean water and spend more time at home or school instead of walking miles to obtain water.”

Students raised the money through 60 cake sales, a Christmas and Easter fair and an international food fair. They also cleaned cars and took part in the ice bucket challenge.
