A 62-year-old man was assaulted in broad daylight hile he was walking in Princes Risborough.

The victim sustained a broken nose, severe cuts and swelling to both eyes and cuts and scratches.

Thames Valley Police are appealing for witnesses following the assault, which happened on Sunday.

Between 1.30pm and 2.30pm the man was walking on the bridleway near Pulpit Hill in Cadsden, from the Plough towards Pulpit Hill, when a cyclist rode past him.

The two men had a verbal disagreement, before the cyclist pushed the victim to the floor and punched him several times in the face.

The victim was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford and has since been discharged.

A 50-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent and has been released on bail until November 15.

Police describe the offender as white, around 50-years-old, 5ft 11ins tall of medium build. He had very short shaven grey hair and was wearing a grey short-sleeved T-shirt, cycle shorts and black mesh fingerless cycling gloves.

Officers would like to speak to anyone who may have seen or heard anything around the time of the assault.

PC Rebecca Brydon, from High Wycombe police station, said: “The victim walked over a mile to return to his vehicle, which was parked in the Whiteleaf car park in Peters Lane, Princes Risborough, where people were having picnics. The victim was bleeding from the face and had his terrier dog with him. I would like to speak to anyone who may have seen him.”
