PLANS to build more than 250 new homes and convert a listed manor house have gone back to the drawing board.

A planning application for the new development at Newland Park in Chalfont St Giles was first submitted four years ago.

But after being re-drawn twice in the intervening period, the application has now been formally withdrawn by the applicant.

The notification sent to Chiltern District Council this week indicated however a fresh application would be sent to planning bosses in the near future.

Newland Park, in Gorelands Lane, was pinpointed for use for housing development by the council five years ago in order to meet housing targets set for each local authority by the previous Labour government.

The proposals were to redevelop the site to create 264 new dwellings, new fitness and sports facilities and an energy/recycling centre.

Ten of the new homes would have been created by redeveloping the inside of a Grade II listed manor house on the site, while a further four were to be created by altering an adjacent former stable block.

The original application submitted to Chiltern District Council in 2010 was for 326 new dwellings to be created on the site, but following a number of consultations this figure was reduced to 264.

Further revised applications to redevelop the site - which was formerly occupied by the-then Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College - are set to be submitted to the council at a future date.

Plans to build more than 200 new homes at the former Holy Cross Convent School in nearby Chalfont St Peter were given approval last month after a High Court appeal failed.
