Radnage residents have defiantly warned that they are “fighting back” against proposals to turn an award winning pub into a house.

The Three Horseshoes, in Horseshoe Road, is under threat from closure after plans to convert it into a house was submitted.

The popular village pub has won awards for its standard of food and was included in a list of 50 great pubs in England and Wales.

The application to change the building’s use from a public house to a five-bed detached house was put to Wycombe District Council by JPPC Chartered Town Planners on December 13.

Vicky Griffiths, who was born in the village and has lived there for more than 60 years, said: “The village is fighting back. The pub has always been an amazing place and we don’t want to see it go.

“We currently have 56 letters of objection to the proposals. The pub is one of the most important places in the village for the community.

“It’s an asset we are proud of and it will be a huge loss to us all.”

The letters of objection are unanimous in their support of the pub, including one resident whose newborn son spent the first few days of his life there when he was born during his parents’ house move.

The villagers are now in the process of trying to make the pub a community asset, where residents can use the powers given to them by the Localism Act 2011, to halt the sale of buildings or land to give the community a chance to bid and buy it.

A decision from Wycombe District Council on whether the application will be approved or rejected is expected to be returned on February 10.
