Two people have died and a man has been arrested for driving while unfit through drugs after a horror crash on the M40 last night.

Police have confirmed that a man believed to be in his sixties and a woman died in the crash.

It collided with a black Renault Clio and both vehicles caught fire.

A passenger in the Clio, a woman was taken to hospital but later died.

No formal identification has yet taken place and officers are working to establish the next of kin.

The motorway was closed in both directions for more than four hours.

The crash is still causing delays, with one lane closed, with slow traffic and long delays due to barrier repairs on M40 London bound between J4 and J3.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the vehicles prior to the incident is asked to contact investigating officer, PC Matt Diduca from Amersham Roads Policing on 101.

If you don't want to speak directly to the police you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
