Friends have paid tribute to a “sweet angel” who tragically died after being hit by a train on Saturday.

Teenager Jessica Monks, who worked part time at Starbucks, in Marlow, died after being hit by a train near Twyford Station.

Jessica is believed to have been pronounced dead at the scene and police are not treating the death as suspicious.

The 18-year-old, from South Close, in Medmenham, studied at The Henley College.

Tributes and pictures of Jessica have been posted on the notice board in Starbucks in Marlow High Street where she worked.

Colleagues spoke of their disbelief at losing such a “lovely” and “joyful girl”, which reduced customers to tears when they heard the terrible news.

Dana Buzescu, 31, Starbucks supervisor, said: “I was shocked when I first heard. I always really enjoyed my time here working with her.

“She was always a very cheerful, joyful girl; always very smiley. It’s a great loss and she will definitely be missed.

One of the tributes paid to Jessica on the Starbucks noticeboard.

“She was doing well. [She was] always enthusiastic. It’s such a shock for this to happen so suddenly.”

Another member of staff, Shelvie Kees, 22, said that she had worked with Jessica for about six months and found out about the news when a message was posted on social media by the teenager’s family.

Ms Kees said: “I found out when I was on Facebook. Her mum put something up telling people who hadn’t already heard.

“I was just in total shock. I didn’t know what to think. It was such a horrible thing to happen and for me it was so sad.”

Ms Kees said this latest piece of awful news follows on from the tragic loss of her two friends, Daniel Horton and Aaron Savin, who died in a car crash in Beaconsfield in November.

She added: “She [Jessica] was very bubbly. Everyone was shocked when we told them. Customers had tears in their eyes. Everyone thought she was lovely and said that she was a sweet angel.”

Jayne Davis, principal of The Henley College, said: “The college staff, in particular those that knew Jessica well, were deeply saddened to hear about her death. Our thoughts are with her family at this time.”

An inquest has been opened and adjourned by Berkshire Coroner’s Court.
