Progress is being made with major works to create a cycle route linking Marlow with Marlow Bottom, despite the project falling behind schedule.

After being hampered by technical issues, county council contractors have now almost completed the next phase of the cycleway, causing disruption to drivers and pedestrians this week.

Temporary traffic lights have been in place all week on Wycombe Road while the new path is linked to Marlow Bottom, with those on foot escorted through the area by workers this week.

A Transport for Buckinghamshire update said: “The contractor is behind programme because of numerous shallow utility cables, poor weather, change in material specification to the embankment retaining wall along Wycombe Road and the Christmas holidays.

“It is anticipated that the cycleway phase will now be completed in March.”

The building site on Wycombe Road has featured nine different contractors on site at various times since last year.

These included footway work, kerbing, carriageway patching, surface water drainage, tree surgery, flailing hedges, traffic signs, road markings, red surfacing, street lighting, traffic signals, bus shelter, retaining walls and fencing.

A pedestrian crossing on Wycombe Road was upgraded to a Toucan cycle crossing at the end of January.

The work will then switch to the road in Marlow Bottom, where temporary lights will be in place for up to four weeks during working hours.

The major building project will form part of the Marlow to Marlow Bottom cycleway, which will link Burford School, Great Marlow School and the town centre and cost £308,000

Initial funding has been secured through developer contributions, via partnership working between Wycombe District Council and Buckinghamshire County Council.
