An "eyesore" vehicle abandoned on a residential road in Marlow is just the latest problem for frustrated residents who say the parking situation is out of control.

A van left on Claremont Road since last year was earmarked for removal last week after District Council issued a 'destruction notice'.

The action was taken after pressure from resident Kristine Kirby, who says there is simply no room left on Marlow’s narrow streets.

In an email to Ms Kirby, police said: "Many thanks bring this eyesore to our attention."

Ms Kirby raised parking issues at a residents’ forum last month, claiming people are considering leaving Marlow because the parking situation is so bad.

The e-commerce worker, originally from the United States, said residents cannot park near their homes due to workers and shoppers taking advantage of unregulated parking.

And she said homeowners are resorting to ripping out their gardens to secure a parking spot – or even moving out of town altogether.

She said: "It’s not going to look so pretty when everyone pulls up their garden and puts in parking spaces, it will look awful if it keeps going.

"It’s just ridiculous, and the amount of people thinking about moving is blowing my mind at the moment.

"If you live in my road you can’t park near your house because people are too cheap to pay for the parking lot when they go shopping. If you have the money to shop at Waitrose then they can afford £1.

"There are a number of options to be looked at, and they need to be looked at carefully. This problem is not going away, and there is always a solution."

Residents’ calls for parking permits have not yet been answered, and Ms Kirby said patience is wearing thin.

County, district and town councils say they are waiting to analyse figures from the new Automatic Number Plate Recognition System in Marlow car parks before starting a long-awaited town parking study.
