FORMER High Wycombe Big Brother housemate Makosi Musambasi publicly settled a libel claim against The Sun newspaper last week.

Top libel judge, Mr Justice Eady, was told that the Sun now recognised that the allegations at the heart of Makosi's complaint were wrong.

Solicitor David Price, for Makosi, told the judge that the claim arose out of an article on August 11, 2005, headlined "Big Con".

He said the paper alleged that Makosi, a former nurse at Wycombe Hospital who was then a housemate on Big Brother, was really an actress and had been part of a "con" whereby she had bypassed the normal audition process to get on to the Big Brother show.

The article claimed she had been secretly fast tracked on to the show behind the public's back, said Mr Price.

However, he said that she had not bypassed the proper process nor in anyway sought to do so.

He said: "Makosi was hurt and embarrassed by the article and was not prepared to allow these incorrect allegations to remain unchallenged."

He said that The Sun had made an "offer of amends" and had agreed to an "amicable settlement" of the claim.
