Sailing enthusiasts and beginners have been welcomed to a Bourne End club as they prepare to hold their annual open day at the weekend.

The Upper Thames Sailing Club is welcoming people of all ages from the community to sample what life is like on the water on Sunday.

Club spokesman Debbie Kite said: "Anyone interested in taking up sailing, whether as a beginner or experienced sailor is invited to come to the club and see what we offer.

"Experienced instructors will be taking visitors out in sailing dinghies, and weather permitting, a classic Thames A Rater. For those who prefer motor power, there’ll be rides in rescue boats."

Based in Bourne End the sailing club area goes as far as Marlow.

The club is a Royal Yachting Association training centre and has members ranging from nationally competitive racers to beginners of all ages.

RYA training courses for sailing and powerboat driving are run throughout the season including summer holiday courses and race camps.

The open day also coincides with the annual ‘Tea by the Thames’ fundraiser at 3pm for the charity Sail4Cancer.

Sunday’s event runs from 10.30am until 4pm and access to the club is off the A4155 Marlow to Bourne End road.

The club says there will be signs directing visitors to the club and car park.
